{"id":458620,"date":"2023-03-24T13:18:30","date_gmt":"2023-03-24T07:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/?p=458620"},"modified":"2023-03-24T13:18:34","modified_gmt":"2023-03-24T07:48:34","slug":"mahatma-gandhi-degree","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apnlive.com\/india-news\/mahatma-gandhi-degree\/","title":{"rendered":"Mahatma Gandhi had no law degree, claims Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha | WATCH"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Thursday courted controversy with his remarks on Mahatma Gandhi, claiming that the Father of the Nation did not have a degree in law or any other subject.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking at a function in Gwalior\u2019s ITM University to mark the Martyr\u2019s Day which falls on March 23, Sinha claimed that Mahatma Gandhi\u2014who worked as a barrister during the apartheid era in South Africa\u2014did not have a degree in law but merely a high school diploma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sinha claimed that Gandhi qualified to practice law but did not have a law degree from any university.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\nhttps:\/\/twitter.com\/AhmedKhabeer_\/status\/1639045713597464579\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The Jammu and Kashmir LG claimed that even though the father of the nation overcame insurmountable odds during his lifetime, some educated people have a \u201cmisconception\u201d that he possessed a law degree which is not true and while some people may counter his arguments, he was only speaking facts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defending his claims, Sinha asked that not having a degree does not mean that Mahatma Gandhi wasn\u2019t well educated as a University degree is a prerequisite for being educated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A video of the Lieutenant Governor\u2019s outrageous claims is going viral on social media and has sparked outrage among users with some terming Sinha\u2019s claims as \u201cblatant lies\u201d aimed to defame the nation\u2019s father.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Lt Governor delivered the keynote address for Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Memorial Lecture at ITM, Gwalior\" width=\"740\" height=\"416\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/P79lX3Kb4Fg?start=2&#038;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Others have pointed out the fact that a Law degree is mandatory for practicing law and as such Sinha\u2019s claims are purely fabricated having no basis in reality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Telangana Industries Minister and BRS working president KT Rama Rao took potshots at the BJP over Sinha\u2019s remarks, wondering if the saffron party will next campaign for awarding a Nobel Prize for Nathuram Godse\u2014the man who shot and killed Mahatma Gandhi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In another jibe at the BJP, he tweeted: \u201cWhatsApp University graduates after all,\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During recent years, questions have been asked over the education and degrees of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Smriti Irani.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Mkgandhi.org, Mahatma Gandhi successfully completed his law degree from University College London (UCL) in three years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha on Thursday courted controversy with his remarks on Mahatma Gandhi, claiming that the Father of the Nation did not have a degree in law or any other subject.
