Facing flak for dropping chapters on the Mughals from Class 12 history textbooks, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) director Dinesh Prasad Saklani clarified that the move had no ulterior political motive and was to lower academic load on students which came to light during the Covid pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saklani said the top body had put out data that learning had been impacted due to the Covid pandemic. He stressed students faced a lot of trauma when classes were being held during the lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that the move was thought up to lessen the content load in textbooks to provide a respite to students who were affected by the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCERT Director said a process was adopted last year that was completely professional and after detailed deliberations to arrive at the decision. He highlighted that the advisory body had also clarified the move last year thoroughly and added that the revisions which were made last year will continue for this academic year as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Saklani rejected the outrage after news reports on the removal of chapters on Mughals. Countering the allegations, he said the argument that doesn\u2019t hold any ground and added a similar alteration happened last year as well for which the advisory committee gave a thorough explanation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further stressed that there is no bias behind the move and called the allegation to be an irrational assumption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NCERT issued a notification where they listed changes in the syllabus for the student and cited that the content of the textbooks was reconsidered for various reasons which included the overlapping of similar content in the syllabus and in lower and higher classes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The move by the Centre was met with a lot of criticism as many called it a deliberate attempt to efface Mughals from the history of India to achieve political gains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
