Ahead of the Karnataka Assembly Elections 2023, former state chief minister Jagadish Shettar quit the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after he was denied a ticket to contest upcoming elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 67-year-old leader has also said that he would resign from the party as well as the Assembly. Shettar, who served as the leader of the opposition when the Congress was in charge, has declared that he would definitely run in the upcoming assembly election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said with a heavy heart he will resign from the party and further stated that he is the one who has built and raised this party. They (some party leaders) created a situation for him to resign from the party, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shettar expressed his disappointment with the way he was treated as he recalled his contributions to the party and the important positions he held in the state. He said he is upset with the way he was humiliated and hence decided to fight the election. He said he will go to Sirsi and tender his resignation from the Assembly to the speaker. The Lingayat leader further said he will resign from the party which he had built in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further claimed that there was a deliberate plot against him and said that although he had never been indurate, the party had made him so. The statement was made shortly after the six-term MLA met with Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and Dharmendra Pradhan as well as Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the second major blow to the BJP. Just a day ago, former deputy chief minister Laxman Savadi resigned from the party and joined the Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
