All the 12 boys of the \u201cWild Boar\u201d soccer team and coach trapped for more than two weeks deep inside a flooded Thai cave have been rescued, a Thai navy SEAL unit said on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

“The 12 Wild Boars and coach have emerged from the cave and they are safe,” the Thai navy SEAL unit said on its official Facebook<\/a> page.<\/p>\n

The rescue brought a happy ending to the drama that captivated people worldwide as cave experts grappled with the problem of how to free the young, malnourished boys, some of whom couldn’t swim, from a flooded cavern as monsoon rains threatened to raise water levels even further.<\/p>\n

The boys and their coach got trapped on June 23, while exploring the Tham Luang cave complex in the northern province of Chiang Rai after soccer practice, when rising flood water following a heavy downpour flooded the tunnels and cut off the exit.<\/p>\n

$\"\"$ <\/a>British divers found the 13, hungry and huddled in darkness on a muddy bank in a partly flooded chamber several kilometres inside the complex, on Monday last week.<\/p>\n

In the last 18 days, what began as a local search for the missing 13 turned into a complex rescue operation, involving hundreds of experts who flew in from around the world to help.<\/p>\n

After pondering for days how to get the 13 out, a rescue operation was launched on Sunday when four of the boys were brought out, tethered to rescue divers.<\/p>\n

Another four were rescued on Monday and the last four boys and the coach were brought out on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The last five were brought out of the cave on stretchers, one by one over the course of Tuesday, and taken by helicopter to hospital.<\/p>\n

Three members of the SEAL unit and an army doctor, who has stayed with the boys since they were found, were the last people due to come out of the cave, the unit said.<\/p>\n

Celebrations will be tinged with sadness over the loss of a former Thai navy diver Saman Kunan who died last Friday while placing oxygen tanks on a re-supply mission inside the cave in support of the rescue.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
