Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off the first water metro of India on Tuesday, April 25. India’s first water metro will be launched in Kerala’s Kochi district which will not only help in boosting tourism but will also bring a major revolution in the water transport sector in the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The one-of-its-kind project will provide commuters in Kochi a safe, affordable, and pocket-friendly travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Kochi Water Metro will connect 10 islands in and around the city. It will have 78 electric boats and 38 terminals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Routes<\/strong>: In the first phase, the water metro will start sailing with eight electric-hybrid boats on two routes, High Court to Vypin and Vyttila to Kakkanad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n High Court to Vypin will start operations on April 26 at 7 am and the second route, Vyttila to Kakkanad will start from April 27 at 7 am.<\/p>\n\n\n\n People can reach Vypin from High Court Water Metro Terminal in less than 20 minutes. The estimated travel time from the Vyttila Water Metro terminal to the Kakkanad terminal is around 25 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Read Also<\/strong>: UP Govt. forms Judicial Commission to investigate Asad Ahmed\u2019s encounter<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n During the peak hours, boats will operate in the High Court to Vypin route every 15 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Ticket Price<\/strong>: Single journey ticket fare from the High Court to the Vypin route will be Rs 20 and Rs 30 for Vyttila to the Kakkanad route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In addition to single-trip tickets, the Kochi Water Metro will also offer weekly, monthly, and quarterly passes. Commuters can take benefit of special discounts on a variety of trip passes as an inaugural offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A weekly trip passes with 12 trips will cost Rs 180 while the monthly trip passes valid for 30 days with 50 trips will cost Rs 600. Passengers can take 150 rides with the quarterly pass at a fee of Rs 1,500 over a 90-day period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Passengers can travel in both the Kochi metro and the water metro using the Kochi One card.
