The death toll in the Bhiwandi building collapse in Maharashtra rose to eight on Monday. The three-storey building collapse incident happened on April 29 in the Bhiwandi area of the Thane district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The building, which comprised godowns on the ground and first floors and four families on the top floor, collapsed at 1:45 pm on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The search and rescue operation ended at the building collapse site in Bhiwandi after 45 hours, said National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Several people were feared trapped under the debris after the Vardhaman building collapsed in Bhiwandi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
NDRF Commander Deepak Tiwari said four teams were working on site and rescued a total of 10 people in the operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There was a girl child, who was rescued by the dog squad. Our dogs work very well and do canine searches, he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A civic official stated that the structure was about ten years old and might not be able to handle the weight of a mobile tower that had recently been mounted on top of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thane Police on Sunday detained builder Indrapal Patil from the Mankoli area. A case has been registered against the builder under Sections 304 (2), 337, 338 and 42 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Earlier, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Indira Gandhi Hospital and met people injured in the incident on Saturday night.
