A man was killed after allegedly being run over by a car of BJP leader Suvendhu Adhikari\u2019s convoy at Chandipur in West Bengal\u2019s Purba Medinipur district on late Thursday night, reports said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According reports quoting local residents, a car of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari\u2019s convoy allegedly hit a man, identified as Sheikh Israfil, in Chandipur area, resulting in his death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the accident, residents blocked the road in protest, demand justice for the slain and action against the saffron party MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The locals claimed that the Nandigram MP\u2019s convoy did not even bother to stop even after one of the car\u2019s ran over the man and continued on its way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per a report quoting a local who claimed to be an eyewitness, the convoy was on the left side while the victim was on the right side, when suddenly one of the cars moved to the right and hit the man.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He also alleged that upon noticing the accident, the driver of the said vehicle, fled from the scene along with the rest of the convoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Read Also:<\/strong> Manipur-bound trains cancelled following violence, check full list here<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n said that he was having tea at a local shop at the time of the accident, just a few metres away from the accident spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to the police, Adhikari\u2014the Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly\u2014 was on his way back after attending a party programme at Moina, however, its not yet confirmed if the car that caused the accident, was part of the senior BJP leader’s convoy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Giving details, a senior police official said the victim, Sheikh Israfil, was crossing the road near a petrol pump on the National Highway at around 10:30 pm on Thursday night, when he was hit by a speeding vehicle. Israfil sustained critical injuries in the accident and was rushed to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The official said that a case has been registered in this regard and it is being investigated if the vehicle that hit the man was part of the BJP leader\u2019s convoy as the locals have claimed, adding that further investigation is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Neither Suvendhu Adhikari nor any other leader from the BJP has yet issued a statement in this connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n More details are awaited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Manipur violence: Governor issues shoot-at-sight orders in extreme cases<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
