After 14 hours of firefighting efforts, the massive fire that ignited at Satpura Bhawan in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday afternoon had been brought under control, according to officials. The most affected floors by the fire were the third, fourth, fifth, and sixth floors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Bhopal Commissioner of Police Harinarayanachari Mishra said, the flames have been controlled but there is a cloud of smoke at different places, therefore there is a possibility that it may catch fire later but teams are working.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Madhya Pradesh\u2019s chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, requested assistance from the Indian Air Force (IAF) due to the magnitude of the fire, and on the directives of, the defence minister Rajnath Singh, IAF’s AN 32 and Mi-15 aircraft were flown to Bhopal for the dousing operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Mishra said there is now no need for IAF helicopters as the fire had been brought under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fire broke out at around 4:00 pm in the third-floor office of the Tribal Welfare Department and eventually spread to the fourth, fifth and sixth floors of the building. There were multiple explosions as the raging inferno touched air conditioners and several gas cylinders. Since all officers and workers were quickly and securely evacuated, there have been no casualties reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The fire affected every office there, including the health department office, where records were damaged, according to sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the opposition levelled a number of accusations against the BJP government on Monday. Congress responded to the incident and claimed that Madhya Pradesh’s current BJP government is beginning to worry about leaving the state as official documents started to burn. Soon after this, the chief minister announced the formation of a committee to find out the initial causes of the fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the police commissioner of Bhopal Harinarayan Chari Mishra said, the fire was primarily caused by a short circuit, but a team has been formed to look into this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
