Star Indian Olympian PV Sindhu returns to the court like a lioness. PV Sindhu defeated Gregoria Mariska Tunjung at her home ground in straight games in the opening round of the Indonesia Open World Tour Super 1000 competition today. Sindhu has returned to her form after recovering from her injuries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The double Olympic medalist and former world champion, who lost in the first round of the last two competitions, defeated her recent opponent from Indonesia 21-19, 21-15, in 38 minutes to secure a place in the pre-quarterfinals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, this was Sindhu’s first victory over Tunjung, considering all of her previous three matches this year. She lost to the Indonesian in the Madrid Masters final and Malaysian Masters semifinal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Tunjung had a 9-7 lead after a crosscourt drop in the first game against Sindhu, who has dropped to No. 13 in the world rankings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After Tunjung made three straight mistakes, Sindhu took the lead 11-10 and won the first game by taking full advantage of her height.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After an interesting beginning, Sindhu was in top form in the second game and pushed Tunjung to make a number of mistakes, allowing herself to break her losing streak and improve her overall head-to-head record to 8-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The third rank Tai Tzu Ying is up next, Sindhu will have an even stiffer challenge. This was also her first win over Tunjung in her previous three games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With an overall head-to-head record of 18-5, the Taiwanese star is on an eight-match winning streak versus the Indian shuttlers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The in-form shuttler HS Prannoy also had a successful start, defeating Japanese opponent Kenta Nishimoto 21-16 21-14 in 50 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
HS Prannoy will play against Hong Kong\u2019s NG Ka Long Angus in the round of 16 after winning the Malaysia Masters Super 300 title last month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Indian shuttlers Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost to Rin Iwanaga and Kie Nakanishi of Japan in the opening round of the women’s doubles competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commonwealth Games bronze medalist duo lost in one hour and 12 minutes after losing their lead in the first game. The final score was 22-20, 12-21, and 16-21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
