The coastal areas of Gujarat is preparing for severe to extremely heavy rains and gale wind speeds gradually reaching 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph as cyclone Biparjoy is expected to make landfall near Jakhau Port in Gujarat’s Kutch district today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The very severe cyclone storm Biparjoy has caused a red alert from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) for the Saurashtra and Kutch coasts, where it is anticipated to interrupt rail service and disrupt roads, standing crops, and buildings. Along with likely pole damage, power and communication lines could also be impacted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a very severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained wind speed of 120-130 kmph gusting to 145 kmph, Cyclone Biparjoy is very likely to move northeastwards and cross Saurashtra & Kutch and adjoining Pakistan coasts between Mandvi (Gujarat) and Karachi (Pakistan) near Jakhau Port (Gujarat) by the evening of June 15th, according to an IMD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Up until the night of June 15, the water level along and off the shores of Saurashtra and Kutch is anticipated to be high and then a gradual increase could be seen. In Kachchh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Porbandar, Jamnagar, and Morbi districts, the Met department issued a storm surge warning. It also noted that the astronomical tide is expected to flood these districts’ low-lying areas at the time of landfall. Astronomical tides along these districts could reach heights of up to 3-6 metres at various locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a preventative action in the wake of cyclone Biparjoy, the Western Railway (WR) decided to cancel or short-terminate the operation of a few additional trains on Wednesday. According to the press statement, a total of 76 trains have been cancelled out of which 31 short-originated trains and 36 short-terminated trains have been cancelled so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
