Months after the complaint by a junior lady police officer against Former Additional Director General of Police Force Rajesh Das, the Tamil Nadu local court has granted bail to suspended ADGP Rajesh Das. He was convicted in a 2021 sexual harassment case, allowing him 30 days time to appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lady police officer had alleged that Das had made inappropriate advances towards her while the two were on duty at the state\u2019s central districts. The incident took place when All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagham leader Edappadi Palaniswami was the chief minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, the state had set up a six member committee to investigate into the complaint. The complaint became a big issue ahead of 2021 assembly polls, where the AIADMK lost. Jayanth Murali replaced Das as Additional Director , General in charge of vigilance and anti-corruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier the Court had dismissed a plea by Das challenging the jurisdictional competence of the Tamil Nadu local court. Justice P Velmurugan dismissed the plea asserting that the High Court found no contrary in the order by the Tamil Nadu local court. The High Court found the incident shocking and warned other lady police officers to take care of their safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Das had been suspended by the state government after hearing the high court\u2019s comments. He had also approached the Supreme court asking for the trial to be shifted out of the state as he feared that the comments by the high court might not let him have a fair trial. The Supreme court denied his petition but noted that there was no need for the High court to monitor enquiries.
