A group of people pelted stones at police personnel on June 24, over the removal of the Bhim Rao Ambedkar statue which was allegedly installed illegally overnight in Bhadohi, leaving two cops injured. The statue of B R Ambedkar was installed unofficially on Friday night over a platform, the land that was designated for a pond in Mushilatpur village in the city of Kotwali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the officials, when police reached the place to remove the Ambedkar statue, people started pelting stones and there was chaos on the spot due to stone pelting. In response, the police brought the situation under control by resorting to lathi charge. After the incident, 11 people have been arrested on the spot. Among those caught, there were eight men and three women from the Dalit community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Circle Officer Bhubaneshwar Kumar Pandey said police used minor force to disperse the violent crowd in the Bhadohi police station area. On Saturday, City Kotwali in charge Inspector Ajay Seth said that police has registered a case against 21 named persons and 30 unknown persons in the case of stone pelting at police personnel. He said 11 people have been arrested so far including 3 women and the police team has also engaged to arrest the other miscreants. Sufficient police have been deployed to maintain the peace in the conflicted area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police officer Bhubneshwar Kumar Pandey said on receiving the complaint, Deputy District Officer Yashwant Yadav and City Kotwal Ajay Seth reached out and tried to convince people to remove the statue but they resisted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some reports claimed that the statue was already installed on the spot on Friday night. The statue of Ambedkar was supposed to be replaced by a new one since it was in poor condition and the pond is the land of the village society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CO Pandey said that due to tension in the area, heavy police force has been deployed on the spot to maintain Law and order. Meanwhile, the recovered statue has been kept at the police station.
