Wrestlers on Sunday announced that they were moving their campaign to the court now. This comes five months after some of India\u2019s top female wrestlers accused Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh of sexual harassment. The move follows after the police lodged charges of sexual harassment, criminal intimidation and stalking against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia shared identical tweets affirming that the government has fulfilled its promise of filing a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who is also a member of parliament of the ruling BJP party. The statement shared on Twitter read that in this case, the wrestler’s protest will continue until they get justice, but it will be in court and not on the road. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They further added that regarding the reform in Wrestling Federation of India, the election process as promised, has begun. They asserted that they will wait for the fulfillment of promises made by the government regarding the July 11 elections. A few minutes after sharing the tweets, the wrestlers, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik announced that they are taking a break from social media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been relieved of administrative duties, has denied all allegations against him. Reportedly, if the accused WFI chief is convicted, then he will face three years in jail. According to reports, the lawmakers will continue to cooperate with the police and will respect the court\u2019s decision. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seven wrestlers in their police complaints have accused the 66-year-old WFI chief of groping them on multiple occasions and demanding sexual favours. The wrestlers including Olympic and Asian Games medalists, commenced a sit-in-protest against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh in January and they came back with a demonstration in April against the lack of actions. The top wrestlers were briefly detained by the Delhi Police as they cleared the site the next month. Amidst the escalating outrage, the wrestlers suspended their protests after Sports Minister Anurag Thakur promised a June 15 deadline to conclude the probe into the matter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
