The formation of synoptic conditions, such as a low-pressure area in the Bay of Bengal region, cyclonic circulation over Gujarat’s Kutch region, and an active trough spread over Maharashtra to coastal Karnataka, have been cited by the weather forecasting agency as the reasons behind the heavy rainfall prediction in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the past 24 hours, there have been numerous strong downpours in Mumbai, the financial city of India, and its surrounding areas, which have flooded the roadways and hampered traffic. Following waterlogging, the Andheri underground was closed to vehicular traffic, and traffic was redirected to the Swami Vivekananda road (SV road).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported that Santacruz weather station recorded 176.1 mm of rainfall during the same period as the Colaba observatory in Mumbai, which reported 86 mm of rainfall in the city over the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As Maharashtra was hit by torrential rains on Saturday, the IMD issued orange and yellow alerts for the regions of Raigad and Ratnagiri as well as Palghar, Mumbai, Thane, and Sindhudurg.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
