Each person is allowed to carry two sealed bottles of alcohol within the Delhi Metro, according to the DMRC’s updated regulations today.

However, it is still strictly forbidden to consume alcohol inside metro premises. According to a DMRC statement, carrying alcohol in the Delhi Metro was previously prohibited, with the exception of the Airport Express Line.

However, a committee made up of representatives from the CISF and DMRC subsequently reviewed the list, and according to the updated list, two sealed bottles of alcohol per person are now permitted to be carried on the Delhi Metro at the par rates as the Airport Express Line.

The DMRC also urged travellers to conduct themselves responsibly while travelling on the metro.

In the case where a passenger is found behaving impolitely while drunk, officials said that appropriate legal action will be taken against them.

Sharp instruments of any kind, explosive substances, tools, combustible things, paralysing chemicals, other hazardous items, guns, firearms, and other offensive items are among the prohibited items in the Delhi Metro.

Netizens expressed their views on social media in response to the latest development and requested DMRC to alert Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officials of the same information.

A user found this decision strange and taking to Twitter he said, alcoholic beverages are often prohibited by the CISF. However, he also thought it was acceptable because there is no way to guarantee the person carrying won’t act inappropriately, and metros don’t have luggage compartments like airplanes. Glass bottles alone pose a security issue.

Strange!! Usually alcoholic drinks are denied by the CISF. Though I believe it’s OK, cause metros don’t have luggage compartment like flights & there is no way to ensure that the person carrying won’t do anything inappropriate. Glass bottles are a security risk themselves.
— Pradeep 🇮🇳 (@pradeepbisht88) June 30, 2023
