Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today met Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan in Imphal to discuss peace restoration in the ethnic-strife hit state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gandhi after meeting the Governor, speaking to the media said the state needs peace, violence is not going to do any benefit and he personally wants peace to be restored back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said while visiting the relief camps he found various deficiencies such as supply of food and medicines and urged the government to look into the matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gandhi also urged the people of Manipur to work unitedly to bring back normalcy and maintained peace and extended all possible help from his end in the path towards bringing peace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Congress leader arrived on the hill state on Thursday and was on his way towards Churchandpur, when his convoy was stopped by the state police stating security concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eventually, Gandhi returned back and took a chopper to fly to Churchandpur, one of the most affected parts in the state in ethnic riots.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Gandhi visited some of the relief camps in Churchandpur and ahead of meeting the Governor, he flew to Moirang this morning and visited two relief camps, where he interacted with some locals and the clash affected people sheltered there. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A video also surfaced that showcased Gandhi consoling a young girl who was crying and explaining him her plight. During the day, he also met members of different civil society organisations of Manipur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The North Eastern state has been in unrest since May 3 after a violence erupted during a solidarity march organised by All India Tribal Students Union to protest against the Metei community\u2019s demand of inclusion in the Scheduled Tribe(ST) list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The state due to the clashes have reported multiple cases of vandalism, arson, firings and others that has already taken more than 300 lives and has left thousands injured.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
