Manipur\u2019s star footballer Jeakson Singh has sparked a controversy after he wrapped himself with a Metei flag at the victory ceremony of SAFF Championship 2023 held in Bengaluru on Tuesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Singh, calling for peace restoration in Manipur, put a multi-coloured flag over his jersey while he received his medal after India defeated Kuwait in the finals of the SAFF Championship in Sree Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 22-year-old Singh hailing from Thoubal district in the violence-hit Manipur is one of the pivotal players in the Indian football team, as a defensive mid-fielder he helped India win the SAFF Championship finals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The flag donned by the football star is the Flag of Kangleipak or known as Salai Taret flag, the seven-coloured flag represents the seven clan dynasties of the Meitei ethnicity of ancient Kangleipak.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The footballer\u2019s act coincides with the day the ongoing unrest in Manipur completed its two months, which was triggered on May 3. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twitter outraged over Singh flexing the flag calling it unprofessional and demanded action against him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
