Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar is all set to start his statewide tour from Nashik today to consolidate his support base. This comes amidst a power struggle with nephew Ajit Pawar, who defied his NCP leadership and joined the Shiv Sena-BJP government in the Maharashtra. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier on Thursday, Sharad Pawar organized a significant gathering amid an internal conflict within the Nationalist Congress Party. Ajit Pawal denounced the meeting as \u201cunlawful\u201d and claimed that nobody has the authority to convene such assemblies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, the veteran NCP leader will commence his tour by visiting Nashik, Pune, Solapur, and several other areas in the Vidarbha region. These regions involve the constituencies of rebel MLAs like Chagan Bhujbal and Dhananjay Mundem, among few others. On his state tour, Sharad Pawar aims to rebuild and strengthen the party in these locations during his tour. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, NCP leader Praful Patel asserted that the party had not broken up. He added that Ajit Pawar was unanimously appointed as party president by its legislature and organizational wings on June 30. Addressing a press conference, Praful Patel remarked that they had submitted a petition to the Election Commission of India (ECI) with affidavits of over 40 MLAs, informing them about Ajit Pawar\u2019s appointment and staking claim over the NCP\u2019s name and symbol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, Ajit Pawar has underlined that his faction is the legitimate Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and has taken possession of the party\u2019s name and symbol from the Election Commission. At present, Ajit Pawar seems to have garnered support from 32 MLAs, whereas Sharad Pawar, the veteran NCP leader retains the support of 14 MLAs. As per reports, Sharad Pawar will have to secure the support of 36 MLAs, that constitutes a two-thirds majority of the party’s total 53 legislators, in order for his claim to be considered by the Election Commission of India.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
