Near Mount Everest in Nepal today, a chopper carrying six people, including five Mexicans, crashed. The helicopter left Surke in the Solukhunvhu area, home to Mount Everest and other high mountain peaks, and lost touch 15 minutes into the trip. According to a Kathmandu official, five bodies have been found, while a sixth is still missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At 10:15 am, The Kathmandu Post reported that a private commercial helicopter carrying foreign visitors on a scenic trip to Mount Everest lost communication with the control tower while it was flying down to Kathmandu. Captain Chet Gurung was the helicopter’s pilot whose call sign was 9N-AMV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The helicopter’s wreckage was discovered in Chihandanda in Lamjura of the town of Bhakanje several hours later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As soon as this matter came to light, the Nepal government began it search and rescue operation. An Altitude Air chopper had arrived at the scene of the incident, according to Raju Neupane, operating and safety manager of Manang Air, who also told the Kathmandu Post that security personnel had also arrived.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There have been fatal aviation crashes in Nepal before, where a number of airlines travel to little airports in far-flung, mountainous regions that are cut off from roads and covered in clouds.
