India and France on Friday declared that they will be jointly developing a combat aircraft engine, according to reports. The announcement was made after bilateral talks between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron. Reports stated that a roadmap for this joint development project will be formulated between the French aviation company Safran and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) before December 2024. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It added that these ventures are in line with the spirit of trust that prevails between India and France in the sharing and joint development of critical components and technology building blocks, based on the successful Indo-French experience in technology transfer. Nonetheless, the statement did not reveal about the procurement of 26 Rafale-M naval fighter jets. The statement mentioned the timely delivery of the 36 Rafale fighter jets purchased by New Delhi for the Indian Air Force (IAF). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Addressing a joint press conference, Narendra Modi emphasized that defence ties have always been the basic pillar of bilateral relations between both the countries. He added that this is a symbol of mutual trust between both the countries. The Prime Minister further remarked that France is an important partner in the Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat programmes. He asserted that whether it is submarines or naval aircraft, both countries want to fulfil not just theirs but also the requirements of other friendly countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking about terrorism, Narendra Modi stressed that India and France are together in the fight against terrorism. He said that the countries believe that strong action needs to be taken against cross-border terrorism. He further announced that both the countries have agreed to introduce India\u2019s Unified Payment Interface in France.
