Six individuals, including three juveniles, have been arrested by the Andhra Pradesh police for a shocking incident that took place in Ongole town of Prakasam district on June 19. The incident, which has come to light a month later, involved the humiliation and brutal assault of a tribal youth. Disturbing visuals circulating on social media show at least three of the accused urinating on the severely injured victim’s face.

Prakasam district Superintendent of Police, Mallika Garg, stated that the incident was initially reported on June 19 when the victim, Naveen, a member of the scheduled tribe (ST) community, was admitted to the hospital with injuries. During the initial interrogation, Naveen mentioned a brawl between him and his friends but did not disclose the incident of them urinating on him. It was only after the video went viral that Naveen provided a statement, revealing that his friends from the Kamma and other communities had harassed and threatened him by urinating on him.

The Superintendent of Police confirmed that out of the nine accused individuals, six have been arrested, while the remaining three are currently at large. Among the six arrested, three are juveniles who will be presented before the court. A case has been registered against the accused under sections 307 and the SC/ST Act. The motive behind the crime was reportedly Naveen eloping with the girlfriend of one of the accused, Abhilash. Seeking revenge, they invited Naveen for a dinner meeting, during which they assaulted him and subsequently subjected him to the humiliating act of urination.

It has been revealed that the nine accused and Naveen were childhood friends who had previously been involved in property crimes and had a history as rowdy sheeters, with 30 cases filed against them. The incident in Ongole has triggered outrage, reminiscent of a similar incident in Madhya Pradesh where a BJP leader urinated on a tribal labourer. Tribal groups have demanded swift action in response to the Ongole incident. The circulating video clip on social media shows a heavily bleeding victim pleading with the attackers to spare him. Shockingly, some of the accused individuals proceeded to urinate in the victim’s mouth and forced him to drink it.
