D. Karthik, a 20-year-old tribal undergraduate student at IIT Hyderabad (IIT-H), who had been reported missing from the Sangareddy campus since July 17, was tragically found dead in Vizag city on Tuesday. The police suspect that Karthik, who was struggling to clear three backlogs in his studies, may have taken his own life by jumping into the beach under Arilova police station limits in the city. His lifeless body was discovered near the beach on Tuesday morning, and the postmortem has already been conducted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon receiving case documents from the Vishakapatnam police, the missing case will be altered to a suspicious death case. The police found another body washed ashore about ten kilometers away from the last known location of Karthik, and they were able to establish his identity based on a cell phone found in the trousers pocket of the body, using its IMEI number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karthik’s last known location was at Vizag’s RK beach on July 19, but the efforts of the Vizag police to locate him had proven unsuccessful. Karthik hailed from the Nalgonda district of Telangana and was a second-year B-Tech student at IIT-Hyderabad. His family members described him as a brilliant student and the first tribal from their small village to attend a prestigious institution like IIT.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Sangareddy police received a complaint from IIT Hyderabad’s warden, M. Gopinath, stating that Karthik was missing from his hostel room. According to Karthik’s hostel mates, he was under stress and appeared tense and depressed while working hard to clear the three backlogs. Despite the efforts of both Sangareddy and Vizag city police to locate him, Karthik’s mobile phone was switched off, and the last location tracked was in Vizag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
