Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, outgoing Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) president and his son Karan\u2019s names are reportedly excluded from the electoral roll for the coming election. Earlier, the father-son duo were to represent Uttar Pradesh wrestling association for the upcoming election. However, according to reports, it will be Prem Kumar Mishra and Sanjay Singh who will represent the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As per the final voter list for the federation polls, only 50 names that are now mentioned can vote or be nominated for the post in the 12 August election for the WFIs new executive committee. In June, the wrestlers in their meeting with sports minister Anurag Thakur demanded that no one from Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh family be allowed to contest the polls. The wrestlers concluded their 36-day protest on June 7 after meetings with Union home minister Amit Shah and another round of discussions with sports minister Anurag Thakur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, though Brij Bhushan and his son are out of the contest, the BJP MPs son-in-law Vishal Singh does feature in the electoral college. He is representing the Bihar wrestling association. However, the other son-in-law, Aditya Pratap Singh, who is a former joint secretary is missing from the list. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Notably, the deadline to nominate candidates for several posts, including the president, is scheduled on August 1. Furthermore, scrutiny of nomination will be carried out the next day and the final list of candidates will be released on August 7. If required, voting will be conducted on August 12. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reportedly, since six-time Member of Parliament Brij Bhushan, who is facing charges of sexual harassment of female wrestlers following sit-in protests by India\u2019s top wrestlers, has already completed the maximum three terms as the president of Wrestling Federation of India, there was speculation that Karan Bhushan, his son would be given the reins in the newly elected body.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
