The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) survey has been halted pending until August 3. The Allahabad High Court will announce its verdict on August 3 on the scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque, the court announced on Thursday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A day after asking ASI not to continue with the survey and staying with the district court’s decision, the court was hearing the case involving the scientific survey of the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A Varanasi court last week permitted the ASI to perform the scientific study of the Gyanvapi mosque (except the section sealed earlier), and ordered the team to submit its report by August 4. The Muslim side then filed the petition in the Allahabad High Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, the Muslim side appealed to the Allahabad High Court because they were unhappy with the court’s decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ASI presented its case in court today, assuring the bench that it would finish the survey by August 4 and would not harm the Gyanvapi land in any way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the Hindu side was questioned about the construction date of the temple, Vishnu Shankar Jain responded, that the new temple was erected by Ahilyabai Holkar. The previous temple had been destroyed and replaced with a mosque by Aurangzeb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Muslims claimed that the Hindu side’s petition regarding the survey was premature and that all the evidence should first be gathered before such a poll is authorised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the lawyer for the Muslim side claimed, they are merely being harassed since there are at least nine lawsuits ongoing. Third parties are filing lawsuits, not the Kashi Vishwanath Trust. In Varanasi, we are now involved in 19 lawsuits pertaining to the Gyanvapi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
