A terrorist was reportedly gunned down and another was shot at as the Army thwarted an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir\u2019s Poonch district on Monday. The alert troops in Degwar sector noted the movement of the terrorists who were attempting to sneak into the side under the cover of darkness in the wee hours of the day and engaged them in an encounter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, in a joint operation by the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police, two terrorists who had infiltrated the Loc from the Pakistan side were engaged in a gunfight with the security forces. During the gunfight, one terrorist was shot dead and another was shot at while attempting to run back to the LoC. The terrorist was shot at and was seen falling down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports claim that a search operation was commenced in the area to recover the bodies of the terrorists. Though, it was ascertained that the first terrorist was gunned down, it was not clarified whether the second terrorist was killed or injured. Jammu-based defence PRO Lt Col Suneel Bartwal asserted that an Army ambush party established contact with terrorists in the Garhi battalion area around 2 am. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officer added that two individuals were observed moving across the LoC in the general area of Degwar Terva. He mentioned that in the fight, one terrorist was seen dropping while the other moved towards Pintu Nala. As per reports, Pakistan-based terror groups were planning to conduct a major terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the Independence Day. Security has been reportedly strengthened at the LoC and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As far as reports are concerned, this is the second infiltration attempt along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir in the last 24 hours.
