A police case has been filed against members of the Assam Rifles, a central paramilitary unit, just hours after it withdrew from a district in Manipur, a country plagued by violence, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The state police were allegedly prevented from apprehending men who were allegedly responsible for the killing of three people last Saturday in the Bishnupur district by Assam Rifles personnel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Union Home Ministry has administrative responsibility over the Assam Rifles, while the Army has operational control. The Assam Rifles have not yet responded to these accusations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the footage, Manipur police commandos can be seen yelling accusations at and fighting with Assam Rifles members for interfering with their pursuit of alleged militants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the past three months, numerous videos of heated exchanges between Manipur police commandos and Assam rifles have appeared on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When the state police teams arrived at the Kutub Wali Masjid in Kwakta Ward 8 along the Pholjang road, the 9 Assam Rifles’ personnel stopped them and blocked their path by parking their Casper vehicle in the middle of the Kwakta Pholjang road, preventing them from carrying out their legally required duties, according to the FIR filed by the officer in charge of the Phougakchao Ikhai police station in the Bishnupur district.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In five districts of the Manipur Valley yesterday, the Meira Paibi, a vigilante group of Meitei women, planned protest marches against the Assam Rifles, claiming that the paramilitary force had unleashed atrocities on the Meitei people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the day, hundreds of women protested with posters and banners, calling for the Assam Rifles to leave the five valley districts of Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Bishnupur, and Kakching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
