Fresh landslides in Gaurikund, Uttarakhand, claimed the lives of two persons early on Wednesday amid heavy rains in the hill state. This was Gaurikund’s second landslip in the previous five days. With heavy rains expected soon, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow signal for a number of districts in Uttarakhand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Just half a kilometre separates the location of the event in Gaurikund village from the area where a landslide on August 4 claimed the lives of three persons and left 20 more missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While several regions have been experiencing clear skies and bright days, monsoon rainfall is visible and increasing in numerous states. According to the IMD forecast, there could be significant rainfall across northwest India over the next two to three days. According to the weather organisation, Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Jharkhand are likely to see heavy rain. On August 11 and 12, Assam and Meghalaya are expected to have heavy to very heavy rain, while an orange alert has been issued for Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Up till the weekend, the weather service has warned of severe rain in Uttarakhand. Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Haridwar, Pauri Garhwal, Rudraprayag, and Tehri all received orange alerts from the IMD. Additionally, it stated that heavy rain is quite likely to occur today, August 9, in Champawat, Dehradun, Pauri, and Nainital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to impeding daily life, the constant rain in the mountainous state has destroyed infrastructure and left hundreds of vehicles trapped on roadways for several hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Kotdwara, there have been significant landslides, and images show the Siddhbali Temple being severely flooded during the monsoon season. Rainfall has a big impact on Haldwani also. The Sub Divisional Magistrate for Haldwani visited the affected regions and assessed the availability of necessities for locals as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
