A cloudburst in Himachal Pradesh\u2019s Solan claimed the lives of seven people, according to an official. The incident took place at Jadon village late on Sunday night. The cloudburst occurred even as heavy rainfall continued to pound northern state of Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours, with landslides blocking the key roads and washing away bridges, thereby forcing the closure of educational institutions and causing water levels of the rivers to swell. As per reports, in Himachal Pradesh, a conductor of a private bus suffered injuries after a tree got uprooted and fell on a vehicle in Shimla. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu declared that all schools and colleges in the state will remain closed till August 14 owing to the incessant rains. Reportedly, a key stretch of Shimla-Kalka National Highway connecting Shimla and Chandigarh has been affected by recurring landslides over the last two weeks. The worst affected areas are those where the nullahs of Mann and Kunah are located. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, the rains and landslides have caused widespread damage to the crops, fertile land and other official and private buildings in all parts of Hamirpur. The district administration has reportedly warned people not to venture out and avoid going near the Beas river bank and nullahs. The weather office has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorm and lightning at isolated places in the state from August 14 to 17 and forecasted a wet spell in the state till August 19. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, in Uttarakhand, landslides triggered by incessant rains have blocked traffic on multiple roads, including national highways. As per reports, Rishikesh-Chamba National Highway was blocked for traffic due to a landslide near Kunjapuri Bagardhar in Tehri while the movement of vehicles was halted on Rishikesh-Devprayag-Srinagar National Highways at Sakhnidhar. The Ganga river in Haridwar was also flowing above the danger mark at 294.90 metres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although no human casualties have been reported in Uttarakhand , extensive property damage has occurred. A motor bridge and a suspension bridge were washed away on Sunday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The continuous downpour has also led to an increase in the water level of the Mandakini river in the Nanda Nagar Ghat area. Residents have been advised to vacate their homes for safer locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A red alert for heavy rainfall has been issued on Monday in six districts of the state, including Dehradun and Nainital, by the meteorological department. The hill state has been reeling under incessant monsoon showers that claimed the lives of 60 people while17 people are yet missing. Authorities in Dehradun and Champawat have directed the closure of schools in the two districts on Monday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
