He added that India benefited greatly from his leadership. He was the face of the Bharatiya Janata Party for nearly ten years and was the first non-Congress prime minister to serve a full term in office. As far as reports are concerned, he served as the Prime Minister of India from May 16, 1996 to June 1, 1996 and again from March 19, 1998 to 22 May 2004.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Furthermore, the BJP stalwart also served as the country\u2019s External Affairs Minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Maoraji Desai from 1977 to 1979.
