Commenting on the decision, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hailed it as a significant milestone and shared the Gazette notification on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Chief Minister wrote that the honourable President has approved the Delimitation Notification issued by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for Assam. The number of assembly seats remains 126 and the Lok Sabha seats stand at 14. The order is at present officially published in the gazettes of both the Central Government and the State of Assam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports state that the allocation of legislative assembly seats for Scheduled Castes rose from eight to nine, with an additional Lok Sabha seat allocated. In addition, an assembly seat has been added in the West Karbi Anglong District\u2019s autonomous districts. The order further reserves 19 assembly and two parliamentary constituencies for Scheduled Tribes, with respect to Constitution of India\u2019s Article 330 and 332 provisions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the commission, all assembly and parliamentary constituencies in the state have been delimited on the grounds of the 2001 Census as laid down in Article 170 and Article 82 of the Constitution.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, Congress alleged that the delimitation was aimed at the Opposition seats in the north eastern state.
