Incessant rains leading to landslides and flash floods killed 81 people in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The weather department has forecasted an isolated heavy rainfall in the northern states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand in the coming few days. Rescue efforts are being continued to pull out bodies from debris owing to house collapses in multiple places. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to reports, the death toll in rain-battered Himachal Pradesh escalated to 71 on Wednesday with more bodies being recovered. Nearly 71 people have died in the last three days and 13 people are still missing. Speaking to PTI, Principal Secretary (Revenue) Onkar Chand Sharma asserted that around 57 bodies have been recovered since Sunday night. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As per the state emergency operation centre, around 214 people have died due to rain-related incidents in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh since the onset of monsoon on June 24. Around 38 people are still missing.  Reports stated that Himachal Pradesh has already received 742 mm of rainfall in 54 days of monsoon this year against the season\u2019s average of 730 mm it lodged between June 1 and September 30. Shimla Meteorological Centre Director Surinder Paul stated that the rainfall registered in the state this July surpassed all records for the month considering the past 50 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Uttarakhand, the death toll due to rain-related incidents increased to 10. Furthermore, traffic continued to remain disrupted with Pauri-Kotdwar_Dugadda national highway blocked by landslide debris at Amsaur. As per reports, a stretch of the Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway was also washed away near Pipalkoti Bharenpani. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile in Punjab, fresh flooding in areas of Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Rupnagar districts submerged after the release of excess water from the Pong and the Bhakra dams. The Punjab government is closely supervising the situation and relief and rescue operations are underway in the flood-hit areas. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated that the water levels in the Bhakra and the Pong Dams are at 1677 feet and 1398 feet respectively.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
