Cricket legend and Bharat Ratan awardee Sachin Tendulkar on Monday will be designated as a national icon by the Election Commission of India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a release, the ECI said that a Memorandum of Understanding would be signed with the legendry cricketer for a period of three years at Rang Bhavan, Akashvani, New Delhi in the presence of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey, and Arun Goel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This decision was taken to increase the voters\u2019 participation in the forthcoming elections, especially in General Elections 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the age of 16, Tendulkar made his first Test debut against Pakistan. He scored 215 runs at an average of 35.8. In the second match of the Future Cup against South Africa, he became the first player to score 15000 runs in ODI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He made his last Test debut in 2013, last ODI debut in 2012, and last T20 debut in 2006. His only T20 match was played in 2006. On December 20, 2012, Tendulkar retired from ODI cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the series of West Indies in 2013, Tendulkar took retirement from all forms of cricket.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The ECI further said that this collaboration would mark a significant step towards leveraging Tendulkar’s unparalleled impact with the youth demographic for increasing voters\u2019 participation in the forthcoming elections, especially in General Elections 2024. ECI through this partnership aims to bridge the gap between citizens, especially youth and urban populations and the electoral process thereby, trying to address the challenges of urban and youth apathy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier, ECI associated itself with renowned Indians from various fields and designates them as ECI\u2019s national icons to motivate voters for participation in the festival of democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Last year, the Commission recognised famous actor Pankaj Tripathi as the National Icon. Earlier, during the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, stalwarts like M S Dhoni, Aamir Khan and Mary Kom had been the\u00a0ECI\u00a0National Icons.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
