Contradicting his earlier statement about the passing of Zimbabwean cricket legend Heath Streak, his former teammate Henry Olonga has now asserted that the renowned cricketer is indeed alive. In a recent tweet posted on Wednesday, Olonga clarified that the news of Streak’s death was merely a rumour. This comes after Olonga had initially tweeted about Streak’s demise but subsequently deleted the tweet. Following the initial news of the former Zimbabwe captain’s supposed passing, numerous Zimbabwean and international cricketers had taken to social media (formerly known as Twitter) to express their condolences. Olonga’s change in stance on the matter left many people perplexed.

Streak holds an impressive cricketing record, having represented Zimbabwe in 65 Tests and 189 ODIs. His contributions encompass 4933 runs and 455 wickets across formats for his country. Notably, Streak remains the sole player from Zimbabwe to achieve the feat of surpassing 1000 runs and 100 wickets in Tests, as well as 2000 runs and 200 wickets in ODIs. His records continue to serve as inspiration for cricketers both within Zimbabwe and globally.

Streak had been grappling with colon and liver cancer, and his health had deteriorated in May, prompting his family to hospitalize him. Several of his teammates had previously taken to social media to share the news of his passing. Henry Olonga, the former Zimbabwean pacer, had initially used the platform to share the sad news, posting, sad news coming through that Heath Streak has crossed to the other side. RIP legend. The greatest all-rounder Zimbabwe produced. Another Zimbabwean cricketer, Sean Williams, had also expressed his condolences, stating that his heart was broken.
