After being granted bail in the Toshakhana case by the Islamabad High Court, the former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan was taken into custody on Tuesday. On Wednesday, August 30, he will be presented in court after continuing to be held in judicial custody.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Under the Official Secrets Act, he is detained in connection with the cipher case. When he was Pakistan’s prime minister, Imran Khan utilised a secret diplomatic cable (cipher) for political gain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imran Khan was given a three-year term in the Toshakhana corruption case earlier today, but the Islamabad High Court postponed it and ordered his release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imran Khan cannot, however, participate in the upcoming election since he has a five-year political ban.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On August 5, a trial court in Islamabad found the 70-year-old chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) guilty and gave him a three-year prison term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Imran Khan won the case, and Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Aamer Farooq announced his decision by stating, that the copy of the judgement would be available immediately. Farooq also said, all they\u00a0can say at this point is that [Imran’s] request was granted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The former prime minister’s legal team filed a new petition with the Islamabad High Court (IHC) asking for instructions to stop government officials from making any additional unlawful and unjustified arrests of him in cases brought against him after his conviction in the Toshakhana case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a report, the plea particularly mentions the cypher case, which was opened on August 15 by Pakistan’s Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). The Official Secrets Act is being used in this case, and the FIA recently questioned Khan for more than an hour about it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
