The US state of Georgia has officially designated October as Hindu Heritage Month to acknowledge the significant contributions made by the Hindu-American community within the state. Governor Brian Kemp issued a proclamation declaring October as the month to celebrate Hindu heritage. The focus of this celebration will be on the rich culture and diverse spiritual traditions rooted in India.

The move has been welcomed by the Coalition of Hindus of North America (CoHNA), a Hindu advocacy group in the US. CoHNA expressed gratitude to Governor Kemp for recognizing the Hindu community’s substantial contributions across various sectors. The Hindu group highlighted the dedicated efforts of the Hindus of Georgia Political Action Committee (PAC) in making this recognition possible. On a platform previously known as Twitter (X), the group stated, Hinduism has contributed greatly to the cultural milieu of America.

Earlier this year, the Georgia Assembly passed a resolution denouncing Hinduphobia, becoming the first American state to take such a legislative step. This resolution condemned anti-Hindu bigotry and recognized the Hindu community’s enrichment of American society through Yoga, ayurveda, meditation, culinary arts, music, and more.
