A violent confrontation between Meitei and Kuki factions along the border of Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts has persisted for a third consecutive day. Within the last 24 hours, an alarming toll of six fatalities has been apprehended, marking what might be the most fatal incident in the strife-ridden region in over two months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The clash erupted on Tuesday’s early hours when Salam Jotin Singh, a 26-year-old farmer residing in Naranseina village, was targeted and shot. Although Singh survived the bullet wound, he was injured. Notably, a minimum of 18 individuals have suffered injuries during the skirmish, as confirmed by informed authorities. Among the injured are two personnel from the India Reserve Battalion (IRB).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outbreak of violence has been concentrated in the Khoirentak hill area and various sectors along the border between Churachandpur and Bishnupur districts. Reports from district administrative officials and security personnel affirm that six individuals lost their lives between Wednesday evening and Thursday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the course of the gunfight on Wednesday, two individuals sustained injuries from fragments. Tragically, one of them succumbed during transit to Aizawl in Mizoram for medical treatment on Wednesday night. The other individual passed away on Thursday morning, as confirmed by Karthik Malladi, the superintendent of police in Churachandpur. The deceased were identified as LS Mangboi Lhungdim, a local lyricist, and Hemkholun Guite, a village defense volunteer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thursday witnessed two additional fatalities in Churachandpur district, according to undisclosed security sources. The individuals were recognized as Paokam Kipgem and Pau Sonlem. Furthermore, two more casualties were reported in Bishnupur district on the same day. Lourenbam Bikram, deputy commissioner of Bishnupur, stated, the police received information about two deaths resulting from gunfights in Bishnupur district on Thursday. Another fatality occurred on Tuesday in Bishnupur.
