Anurag Kashyap is considered to be one of the most influential filmmakers of Bollywood. As a filmmaker, he has paved the way for newcomers and had his share in independent cinema. He has delivered quite interesting films in his career. One of them is the 2012 two-part crime action thriller, Gangs of Wasseypur, starring Manoj Bajpayee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a recent interview, he was asked if he felt his films didn\u2019t resonate with Indian audiences. He responded by saying that Bollywood is dominated by box office and stars. Talking about his notoriously famous Gangs of Wasseypur, he said that today people talk highly about Gangs of Wasseypur, but it was removed from cinemas in nine days because a big film, Ek Tha Tiger, was coming. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The filmmaker clarified that this wasn\u2019t the decision of a star or a producer, it was a decision by the theatres. The film had done Rs 26 crores in nine days, it would have done even more if it had gotten the space to do so, Anurag Kashyap said.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kashyap then cited the lack of cinema halls in India as one of the root causes of such instances. Gangs of Wasseypur was released in two parts on June 22 and August 8, 2012, respectively. Whereas, Ek Tha Tiger was released in theatres on August 15.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Talking about his attachment to his work as a filmmaker, he said he is very attached to his films but also puts them behind him. When he made Paanch, he was so attached to the film that he kept waiting for years for it to be released, hoping his life would change but it didn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He opened up about the time he went into depression saying that when he made his film Black Friday, it got banned, leading to his depression. He realized that the only way to come out of this is to make a film and then move on to your next otherwise, it pulls you down. You set expectations if you get attached to a film, which starts defining your life. He said this makes you bitter and he doesn\u2019t want that to happen and that he\u2019d rather be positive and make his next film. He added that he has finished writing his next script.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As for his current work, Kashyap is acting in the crime thriller Haddi alongside Nawazuddin Siddiqui. The film is set to release on Zee5 on September 7. Meanwhile, his directorial endeavor Kennedy, starring Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat, premiered at this year\u2019s Cannes Film Festival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
