Navi Mumbai Police made their first ever crackdown on the Nigerians on a massive level, the police on Saturday arrested 36 of the 75 detained on Friday and the drugs seized were of value more than 5 crores. Of the 36 arrested, 14 were caught possessing contraband, 11 had invalid Visa and passport documents. Various quantities of drugs worth Rs 5 crore were siezed from the 14 Nigerians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Asistant superintendent of Police Gajanan Rathore said 600 personnel had been mobilized by the police for the raids including the police teams, ambulance personnel and fire brigade in an anticipation of a backlash from the Nigerians. However the raid went on smoothly without any difficulty. The fire team was available at six locations but their services were not used. The biggest challenge faced by the police personnel was to have the raid started simultaneously which could be achieved with proper homework and coordination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The team of police had been mapping the location of the Nigerians in each node with the help of the narcotics department. The Police wanted to send a strong message that they are going to come down heavily on the drug menace in the city. According to the police officials the action on one Nigerian drug pushers alerted another Nigerian group who then went into hiding and returned to the business a few days later. This was the primary reason why a simultaneous raid was carried out at six locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police seized Tramadol Hydrochloride strips, cocaine, MD worth Rs 4.26 crore from a location in sector 27 in Kharghar. Seven people were also arrested from the same location. The police found nine Nigerians staying without any valid documents at sector 35 of Kharghar and phase 1 of Taloja. At Bonkode in Koparkhairane, the police found 450 gm cocaine and 100 gm MD worth Rs 45 lakh and 10 lakh respectively. \u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
