According to the police unhappy over their daughter\u2019s marriage to a Dalit, family of four consumed poison as a result of which a man and his elder son died in Gujarat\u2019s Ahmedabad district. The family was unhappy with their daughter\u2019s decision to marry a man of her own choice about an year ago. Kiran Rathod (52), his wife Neetaben (50) and their two sons Harshil (19) and Harsh(24) from Dholka town consumed poison on Tuesday night as they wanted to commit suicide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man and his elder son died but the wife and her younger son survived. They are undergoing treatment at a private hospital. When the news of the mass suicide reached the neighbourhood an ambulance was called and the police was informed. The man and his elder son were declared dead by the doctors at a private hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
FIR has been registered against 18 persons, including the husband of Rathod\u2019s daughter, her in laws, friends and other relatives under the Indian Penal Code 506(2)(criminal intimidation), 114 (abettor present when crime committed), 306 (abetment of suicide). The family had severed ties with their daughter as they were not happy with the marriage. The family members refused to visit her at her place of in laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The police added the daughter in laws and other accused persons used to mentally torture the family members. They were not able to bear this torture and hence decided to commit suicide. A similar tragic incident had also occurred in Tamil Nadu district of Nagapattinam in 2022. A man killed three members of his family before commiting suicide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The reason being daughter married a Dalit. The victims include the accused Lakshmanan\u2019s wife and his two daughters. One of the two daughters was a minor. The man owned a tea shop.
