Schoolchildren of a government school in Tamil Nadu refused to eat food that was cooked by a Dalit cook. The Dalit woman Muniyaselvi is a self help group member. She was appointed as cook of a government primary school in Usilampatti to prepare food under the Chief Minister\u2019s breakfast scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials had questioned Muniyaselvi about the excess stock of food materials in the school. She said nine out of 11 students refused to eat the food as parents told their children not to do so due to her caste. The lady cook said he had been a part of a woman\u2019s self help group but the children were ignoring her. She even heard a student say they would be thrown out of the village if they ate the food cooked by a Dalit. The cook said the children were ready to eat but their parents were not allowing them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The lady cook said she did not report the issue to the authorities as she did not want to force anything on the children. On being questioned by a monitoring team she revealed the actual situation to them. DMK MP Kanimozhi, district collector Senthil Raj and state minister Geetha Jeevan visited the government school and ate breakfast with the children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
