Another instance of Nipah virus infection on Friday was confirmed in Kerala’s Kozhikode district after a 39-year-old man’s sample tested positive. The office of State Health Minister Veena George, on Friday, issued a statement to that effect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The man was being treated in a hospital. He had previously sought treatment at a private facility where Nipah-positive patients were treated for other conditions, according to a statement from the state Health Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The total number of Nipah virus cases is six, with four active cases after two persons died due to the infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In response to the Nipah outbreak in Kerala, Kozhikode District Collector A Geetha declared a holiday for all educational institutions in Kozhikode on Thursday and Friday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a Facebook post, she stated that educational institutions can arrange online classes for students on the two days. On Wednesday, a 24-year-old health worker became Kerala’s sixth confirmed Nipah case since the recent breakout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following the spread of the brain-damaging virus, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan chaired a review meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The high-level meeting, chaired by the Chief Minister, extensively examined the issue, and Veena George said, they\u00a0have concluded that all possible prevention measures are in place, and there is no need to panic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The minister further stated that WHO and ICMR investigations revealed that the entire state of Kerala, not only Kozhikode, is vulnerable to such illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to the four wards designated on Tuesday, three in Villyapally panchayat and one in Purameri panchayat in Kozhikode district were notified as containment zones on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Given the severity of the sickness, the Kozhikode administration classified seven village panchayats as containment zones on Tuesday: Atanchery, Maruthonkara, Tiruvallur, Kuttiyadi, Kayakkodi, Villyapalli, and Kavilumpara.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
