In yet another harrowing incident in the northeastern state of Manipur, fresh violence broke out in Imphal West district. According to the police, at least two houses were set on fire and several rounds of bullets were fired. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The incident took place in New Keithelmanbi in the Patsoi police station area around 10 pm on Wednesday, the officials added. Following the attack, the accused fled the spot, triggering tension in the area. Reportedly, security forces and fire service personnel brought the blaze under control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police officials concerned about the matter stated that a mob of Meitei women who gathered in the area following the incident was prevented by the security forces from proceeding further. In an effort to bring the situation under control, additional security forces were deployed in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Few days earlier, violence broke out in Manipur after photos of two missing students surfaced online. The photo of the two students showed them sitting on the ground that appears to be a forest with two armed men in the background. Another photo showed them lying on the ground apparently after being gunned down. Reports further state that the head of the man appeared to be missing. Reports stated that the photos were taken on July 8, two days after the two students went missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Over 180 people lost their lives and several hundreds were injured after the ethnic clashes broke out in the northeastern state of Manipur. The violence erupted after a Tribal Solidarity March was carried out in the hill district to protest against the Metei community\u2019s demand for the Scheduled Tribe status. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the violence-hit state, Meiteis constitute nearly 53 percent of Manipur\u2019s population and reside mostly in the Imphal Valley. Nagas and Kukis comprise little more than 40 per cent and live in the hill districts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
