27 Indian fishermen in Ramanathapuram have been arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy for violating the International maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) and fishing in Sri Lanka\u2019s waters off Delft Island. Along with the fishermen, five boats have been seized. They were handed over to the Sri Lankan fisheries inspector to take further action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 373 boats from Mandabam and 500 boats from Rameshwaram had gone into the sea on Saturday. According to reports the Sri Lankan Navy chased off fishermen who were involved in Fishing activities during the night hours. Five boats which carried 27 fishermen were allegedly captured for violating the IMBL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports out of the five boats that have have been seized by the Sri Lankan Navy one boat is from Mandapam and four boats are from Rameshvaram. About 23 fishermen who were arrested hailed from Thangachimadam Mariya George (47), Murugan (31), Karthik (24), Reegan (37), Kaanan(30), Balu (50), Ramamnathan (35), Guna Sekaran (45), Arul Doss (53), Sagaya Penkar(32), Robinson (19), Jerman Sethrock (22), Pepin Raj (44), Peristen (23), Mobin (21), Justin (43), Kechooriyan (30), Jeevansan (29), Preeman (33) , Mithun(27), KilingDan (30), Binai Kash (19) and Snthiya Stuvart (26).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the Mandabam boat Paluswamy (68), Sakthivel (59), Vairamuthu (66), Maria Washinton (49).According to reports the fishermen were involved in fishing activities near Deft island. The fishermen had violated the IMBL. He chased off several of the boats. The Sri Lankan navy arrested 27 fishemen and five boats which were poaching in the Sri Lankan water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Fishermen association condemned the arrest of fishermen and demanded the union government should take action towards releasing the fishermen as well as the boats. The association added the prolonged issues have to be solved by holding talks between the two nations.
