In a distressing and shocking claim, Bengali Puja committees in Uttar Pradesh have been warned by Sangh Parivaar, RSS and affiliated organisations to not serve any non-veg dish on the occasion of Maha Ashtami and Maha Navami. Reports said that in the Yogi Adityanath led state, police have issued a notice to the Puja committees barring non-veg items during the Maha Asthami and Maha Navami celebrations. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Kolkata celebrates Durga Puja, North India celebrates Navaratri. Though both the festivals stem from the worship of avatars of Maa Durga, celebrations are quite distinct. Durga Puja has its own flavour, its own rules and it is not a replication of Navaratri, where usually people observe fast and eat vegetarian dishes for nine days. Unlike Navaratri celebrations, a majority of Bengalis across the globe celebrate Durga Puja by consuming fish and meat. However, there are few Bengalis who willingly consume vegan food these days. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
