In a massive development for the tech industry, the Tata Group has acquired Wistron’s operations in India, leading the way for it to manufacture and assemble Apple iPhones in India for both domestic and global markets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Taking to social media platform X, formerly Twitter, Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar said that within just two and a half years, Tata Group will start making iPhones from India for domestic and global markets. He also congratulated the Tata team for taking over Wistron’s operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Union Minister also attached a press release issued by Wistron along with the social media post. In the press release, Wistron announced that it held a board meeting today and granted approval to its subsidiaries, SMS InfoComm (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. and Wistron Hong Kong Limited, to sign the share purchase agreement with Tata Electronics Private Limited (TEPL) for the sale of its 100 per cent indirect stake in Wistron InfoComm Manufacturing (India) Private Limited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The statement further added that upon confirmation and signature of the relevant agreements by both parties, the deal will proceed to obtain the necessary approvals. It also mentioned that following the completion of the transaction, Wistron will make the required announcements and filings in accordance with applicable regulations. The aforesaid announcement makes it official that Tata Group will become the first Indian firm to manufacture iPhones in India.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the visionary PLI scheme, mentioning that it has already propelled India into becoming a trusted and major hub for smartphone manufacturing and exports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added that the Government of India, represented by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), stands fully in support in growth of Global Indian Electronics companies that will in turn support global Electronic brands which want to make India their trusted manufacturing and talent partner and to realize the PM’s goal of making India a global electronics power.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
