The NIA (National Investigation Agency) on Wednesday carried out nationwide raids across eight states and two union territories in an attempt to arrest individuals involved in the human trafficking cases. A spokesperson from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) mentioned that they have detained a person from Myanmar in Jammu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NIA raids are being conducted in eight states namely Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Haryana, Rajasthan and two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Puducherry pertaining to human trafficking cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An official concerned to the matter said that a Rohingya Muslim from Myanmar was detained during a raid in Jammu and Kashmir. The official added that Zaffar Alam was taken into custody from his temporary residence in the Bathindi area of Jammu around 2 am, while another accused is on the run, the official said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition, an official from Jammu asserted that the NIA raids were restricted to slums housing Myanmar immigrants and were carried out in connection with a case related to violation of the Passports Act and human trafficking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, two Bangladeshi nationals were arrested by the National Investigation Agency after they carried out raids near Chengalpattu in Tamil Nadu. Reports said that a person named Shahid Hussain, allegedly entered INdia illegally from Bangladesh and obtained fake Aadhar Card. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier in October, the federal agency, NIA arrested a person identified as Mohammad Imran Khan from Tamil Nadu in connection with the illegal stay of some Sri Lankan nationals in India. Nonetheless, it is not yet confirmed whether Wednesday’s National Investigation Agency\u2019s raids were linked to the aforementioned case. Officials cited above stated that the details of the ongoing raids will be shared later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has a specialised anti-human trafficking probe unit that looks into the cases that have international ramifications.
