The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Wednesday demanded strong action from the Bihar assembly speaker against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar over his remarks in the Assembly on the importance of women’s education to control the population and demanded his apology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NCW has written a letter to the Bihar assembly speaker Awadh Bihari Choudhary over the matter. In the letter, the National Commission for Women (NCW) expressed that it strongly condemns and protests the use of such derogatory and vulgar statements made by persons holding responsible positions which shows extreme disrespect to women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The letter added that in view of the aforesaid incident, NCW urges for strong action against Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The women\u2019s body further demanded that the Chief Minister\u2019s statement must be expunged from the records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While emphasizing on the importance of education among women to control the population, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar put forward a vivid description in the state assembly of how an educated woman can restrain her husband during sexual intercourse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier on Tuesday, the NCW took to social media platform X and stated that it vehemently condemns the recent statements made by Nitish Kumar in the Vidhan Sabha. The social media post mentioned that such remarks are not only regressive but also egregiously insensitive to women\u2019s rights and choices. It added that Bihar’s Chief Minister should issue an apology to women across the country for these deeply offensive remarks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, the commission’s chairperson Rekha Sharma demanded an unequivocal apology from the Bihar chief minister. She said that on the behalf of every woman in this country and as the chairperson of the NCW, she demands an immediate and unequivocal apology from the Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. She expressed that the Chief Minister\u2019s crass remarks in the Vidhan Sabha are an affront to the dignity and respect that every woman deserves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
In the social media post, she remarked that such derogatory and cheap language used during the speech is a dark stain on our society. She noted that if a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the horror the state must be enduring under his leadership. She expressed that they stand firm against such behaviour and call for accountability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, on Wednesday, Nitish Kumar apologised and took back his words. He said that if his words were wrong and if anyone got hurt by the remarks, he would take them back.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
