The environment minister of Delhi Gopal Rai, announced on Friday that the odd-even vehicle limit scheme has been temporarily suspended because the city’s air pollution levels are improving.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This came soon after the Supreme Court gave the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led Delhi government, the authority to decide how to execute the regulation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to the media, Gopal Rai said, the rainfall from last night has caused the AQI, which was above 450, to drop to about 300. The decision to put the odd-even rule into effect has been delayed as a result. He also said, the situation would be examined once more following Diwali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In an effort to slow down the growing air pollution, the odd-even rules, which permits private vehicles to be driven only on alternating days based on the final digit of their licence plate, was set to go into effect from November 13 to November 20.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After intermittent rain throughout the night, a dense layer of poisonous, stifling smog that has engulfed the nation’s capital for more than ten days was lifted on Friday. Delhi’s air quality at 1 pm was rated 314 in the “very poor” category by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR). The severe level was reached by the AQI on Thursday night, which was reported at 460.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) claims that additional improvement in air quality is anticipated because of wind speeds that promote the dispersion of pollutants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On Friday, the Supreme Court postponed the case on November 21 and ordered the Punjabi and Central governments to provide evidence of their efforts to reduce pollution. A bench led by Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul noted during the hearing on the subject of the crippling air pollution in Delhi-NCR that although numerous studies and committees had been formed, nothing concrete was being done to address the pollution problem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court informed the central and state governments that they want better air quality and an end to field fires. They also said that they are responsible for how it happens. The decrease needs to continue during the Diwali celebrations. They offered a methodology; they free to follow it or not. But the court need to put out farm fires.
