In yet another political battle over pollution in the national capital, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the opposition BJP hit out at each other after Delhi residents woke up to a grey clouds and thick layer of smog on Monday morning, a day after firecrackers were burnt indiscriminately on Diwali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the occasion of the festival of lights, people across the country continued to burst firecrackers as opposed to the Supreme Court ban. In view of rising pollution, the top court enforced a ban on polluting firecrackers in an effort to minimise air pollution during festivals, across all states. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reacting to the firecracker ban violations, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai accused the BJP-led governments in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana of allowing the burning of firecrackers on Diwali despite the ban. He said that the only reason why the level of pollution has increased on Monday is because of the burning of firecrackers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Delhi Environment Minister Gopal noted that even after the order of the Supreme Court, the BJP does not want to fulfill its responsibility. He claimed that BJP wanted firecrackers to be burnt and the police are with the BJP in all three states (Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to Gopal Rai\u2019s claim, Delhi BJP Vice-President Kapil Mishra expressed that he was proud of Delhiites for not abiding with the firecracker ban in the city on Diwali, mentioning that these were the voices of resistance, freedom and democracy. The BJP vice-president also called the ban unscientific, illogical, and dictatorial. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Criticizing Gopal Rai\u2019s remark wherein he blamed the burning of firecrackers in the city as the reason behind an increase in pollution after Diwali, Kapil Mishra said that it was foolish to blame firecrackers for pollution, as the Delhi’s Air Quality Index was 500 last week and after Diwali it is 296.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kapil Mishra further reasoned that if firecrackers caused pollution, then Gaza, which is being bombed by Israel, would have the highest pollution in the world. He further said not to fight with children\u2019s firecrackers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
