In an unfortunate incident, one army officer has been killed in action and three soldiers are injured after a fierce encounter broke out in Baji Mall forests of Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. The encounter took place after the army’s special forces and police launched a joint operation following intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the forest area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports said that the Pir Panjal forest in Jammu and Kashmir have proved to be a challenge for the security forces in the last few years following a series of encounters. Reportedly, the terrorists use the dense forests to conceal their positions, taking advantage of the topography. They took advantage of treacherous mountains, dense jungles and the alpine forests to hide their positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to reports, the deceased army officer belonged to the 63 Rashtriya Rifles. The special forces had been hurried to retrieve the Major\u2019s body when militants opened fire at them, injuring three soldiers. One of them succumbed to his injuries later, The Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying. The police officials also asserted that the injured have been evacuated to a hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police sources also confirmed that the encounter had been in progress since Wednesday morning, with five or six heavily armed militants holed up inside dense forests. On Friday, a militant was killed in Rajouri\u2019s Budhal area. On the same day, an AK-47 rifle, three magazines, three grenades and a pouch were recovered from the slain militant, whose accomplices had managed to escape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reports quoted locals as saying that two militants on Sunday visited a house near Keri Chaddar village house and asked for food. A local who denied them food was beaten up by the militants, and he reported the incident to the security forces.
